Suzhou International School Hiring IBDP English B Teacher
1. Teaching & Curriculum Delivery
To be responsible for effective EAL-focused classroom management that ensures every student can learn, with attention to language anxiety and differentiated support.
Curriculum delivery in English with properly planned teaching resources (saved in school server, ManageBac, or Moodle), explicitly integrating language objectives alongside content objectives.
Planning appropriate written curriculum documents as per program needs, including EAL scope and sequence and bridging units between CNC English and IB DP English.
Meeting learning outcomes of the curriculum, using IB DP English criteria.
Ensuring that assessment outcomes (diagnostic, formative, summative) are used to plan lessons, with clear distinction between language-related errors and content-understanding gaps.
2. Planning, Assessment & Collaboration
Conducting vertical and horizontal curriculum planning, including EAL articulation between MYP/Pre-DP and DP, and between CNC and IB DP. Weekly collaborative planning meetings required.
Collaborative writing of plans (including language-focused learning objectives and differentiated tasks) uploaded to ManageBac.
Relevant pedagogical approach used to create active and engaged learning, with scaffolding, comprehensible input, and cooperative learning strategies for EAL learners.
To create relevant and authentic formative and summative assessment tasks that assess language proficiency without unfairly penalizing content knowledge due to language limitations.
To be responsible for student learning and ensure measurable progress using EAL-specific benchmarks (e.g., WIDA, CEFR) alongside IB DP criteria.
To do assessment analysis and use results to inform teaching, distinguishing whether performance issues stem from language limitations or content misunderstanding.
3. School Community & Professional Contribution
To contribute to the wider school community by helping create showcases of student learning and active participation in exhibitions, field trips, competitions, judging, house events, etc., with specific attention to highlighting EAL learner progress (e.g., multilingual projects, language growth portfolios).
To do reporting and commenting as per school policies, with comments that clearly distinguish between effort, language development, and content achievement.
General Duties
To participate in school workshops, meetings, and IB / external workshops / conferences, with ongoing professional learning in EAL pedagogy and bilingual education.
Be professionally consistent with the school’s mission and values.
Note and apply the school’s policies and procedures as applicable.
Any other job assigned by the Head of Secondary.
