Job Description

FSLA Status: Non-Exempt - Temporary
Department: Residential
Reports to: Commandant

Position summary:This position supervises cadets in the residence life setting and ensures a safe and secure activities and living environment.  This position requires an individual who will be a Leader, a Teacher, and a Role Model for young men.  Individual must be able to develop strong relationships with cadets, families, and teaching faculty.   This is a temporary seasonal position.  

Position Duties:

Accept and respect multi-cultural diversity.

Group supervision of campers with attention to all of the following: program, health, happiness, discipline, cleanliness, safety, routine duties, character and skill development.

Be concerned for the social adjustment of each camper.

Help campers plan, carry out and evaluate activities.

Assist campers with housekeeping chores.

Take turns with other counselors for various responsibilities. 

Promote and encourage camper participation in all activities.

Exhibit personal habits, health, dress, speech, table etiquette and relationships with other staff that serve as a beneficial model to campers.

Set a good example in all that you do during camp operations, especially when in the presence of young impressionable campers. Remember, camp is a fun learning experience.

Work with the camp directors and other camp staff to iron out difficulties with facilities, programs and campers.

Help develop, carry out and evaluate a camp program that reflects the goals of Leadership and Confidence Camp.

Provide constructive feedback during and at the end of the summer camp season in order to enhance/improve next year’s camp.

Position Rules and Regulations: In order to have a safe, healthy camp that is a good experience for everyone, counselors will NOT;

Use foul objectionable language.

Engage in or permit verbal or non-verbal put-downs of campers or other staff.

Permit destruction of nature in any form (breaking of branches on live trees, picking protected wildflowers/other plants, carving trees, killing or maiming wildlife, etc.).

Permit vandalism of MMA property in any form.

Permit any kind of littering.

Engage in or permit excessive “horseplay” or physical “rough-housing” with campers.

Make threats that are unwise to carry out or administer physical punishments.

Be under the influence; be in possession; or use any drugs, alcohol, or tobacco products while in the presence of campers.

Allow radios, TV’s, etc. to be played when they will distract from the camp program.

Make or permit inconsiderate nose and disturbances in the barracks after lights out and before wake up. 

Drink soda, eat snacks or have any special privileges in front of the campers when they are not allowed to have them.

Wear T-shirts, caps or clothing that advertise drugs, alcohol, tobacco or anything offensive.

Wear earbuds or other music listening devices while supervising campers.

Qualifications:

Ability to work with as a team member with other counselors and adult staff members.

Experience in leadership and military activities.

Responsible, friendly, enthusiastic, patient and willing to teach and learn.

Participate in staff training.

Desire to serve as a strong role model for young impressionable boys.

As a MMA Camp Counselor, I agree to fulfill the responsibilities listed above, comply with the rules and regulations listed and meet the following behavior expectations: 

Counselors are not to leave camp without permission from their camp director.

Counselors are to maintain the curfew designated by camp staff.

Counselors will stay with their campers at all times (day and night) unless otherwise assigned.

Counselors will not use inappropriate language. 

Physical demands and work environment:the physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Physical demands:While performing this job, the employee must be able to lift 25 pounds, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects and keyboards; reach with hands and arms (both), balance, stoop, and stand for at least two hours at a time. The employee must be able to climb multiple flights of stairs multiple times daily. The specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.

Work environment:While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time.  Work is performed inside and outside in all types of weather conditions with slipping, tripping and bumping hazards.

General sign-off: The employee is expected to adhere to all company policies.
