Job Description
Role Description
Guidehouse Technology is seeking a curious, motivated entry-level AI/ML Software Engineer to support federal clients. This role is ideal for early-career technologists who are eager to learn by doing and contribute to real-world AI and machine learning solutions.
You will work alongside experienced data scientists, software engineers, and domain experts to design, build, and deploy AI-enabled applications that advance government mission needs. With mentorship and hands-on experience, you will help deliver solutions such as chatbots, search and retrieval systems, data pipelines, and emerging agent-based workflows. The role emphasizes strong engineering fundamentals and responsible use of Generative AI coding assistants to improve productivity and code quality.
Key Responsibilities
- Support development and testing of AI-enabled applications, including Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), chatbots, semantic search, and early-stage agentic workflows.
- Help build and maintain data pipelines for ingesting, cleaning, transforming, and preparing data for model use.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to prototype, iterate, and evaluate solutions for search, automation, analytics, and data triage.
- Assist in building and maintaining RESTful APIs and services that integrate AI capabilities into larger systems.
- Contribute to engineering best practices: version control, testing, documentation, code reviews, and secure coding.
- Support cloud-based deployment and operations (primarily AWS) under guidance from senior engineers.
- Use Generative AI–assisted development tools (e.g., Cursor, Antigravity, Claude Code) to accelerate coding, debugging, refactoring, testing, and documentation while maintaining quality and security standards.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related field, OR equivalent practical experience (e.g., bootcamp + strong portfolio, associate degree + internships/projects, apprenticeship, or self-directed learning with a demonstrable portfolio).
- Experience with Python and/or JavaScript/TypeScript through coursework, internships, research, or personal projects.
- Foundational understanding of machine learning concepts (e.g., supervised vs. unsupervised learning, embeddings, and evaluation basics).
- Exposure to AI application patterns (e.g., chatbots, semantic search, RAG) through projects, labs, or coursework.
- Familiarity with at least one AI/ML or LLM application framework (e.g., LangChain, Haystack, crewAI, or similar).
- Basic experience with common Python libraries (e.g., NumPy, Pandas, scikit-learn).
- Introductory knowledge of SQL and relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL).
- Willingness to learn cloud technologies (AWS preferred) and modern DevOps practices.
- Interest in using Generative AI tools responsibly to support software development and continuous learning.
Requirements
- Exposure to RAG pipelines, embeddings, vector search, and re-ranking concepts.
- Experience with deep learning frameworks (PyTorch or TensorFlow).
- Familiarity with search technologies (Elasticsearch or OpenSearch).
- Familiarity with cloud SDKs (e.g., Boto3 for AWS).
- Basic understanding of prompt engineering for technical or analytical tasks.
- Familiarity with agentic AI frameworks such as AWS Strands Agents, PydanticAI, etc.
- Exposure to asynchronous programming and/or API development.
- Strong problem-solving skills, curiosity, and a growth mindset in AI/ML and software engineering.
