Job Title: Chief Operations Officer (COO)
Reports To: CEO
Location: Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Kansas City
FLSA Status: Exempt

Position Overview
The Chief Operations Officer (COO) is responsible for overseeing and driving the operational efficiency and quality of all programs at Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Kansas City. This executive leadership role reports directly to the CEO and works closely with the senior leadership team to ensure the organization’s strategic vision is executed effectively.
The COO oversees day-to-day operations, aligns resources, and maximizes the impact of programs and services delivered to children and families.Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
  • Oversee the operational functions and activities of the organization.
  • Collaborate with the CEO and senior leadership team to develop and implement operational strategy aligned with mission and vision.
  • Ensure operational practices and processes optimize program quality, efficiency, and effectiveness.
  • Develop systems to monitor performance and drive continuous improvement.
  • Lead the design and implementation of streamlined systems to coordinate operational logistics across departments and programs.
  • Cultivate a supportive environment where policies and procedures are consistently upheld.
Program Oversight
  • Oversee implementation of all programs, ensuring alignment with strategic goals.
  • Manage and lead direct reports, including:
    • Senior Director of Operations
    • Director of Education & Post-Secondary
    • Director of Whole Child Development
  • Support development and enhancement of programs to meet community needs.
Strategic Planning and Collaboration
  • Assist in developing and executing long-term strategic goals.
  • Collaborate across functions to integrate and streamline operations and program delivery.
  • Partner with program leadership to ensure effective delivery aligned with organizational mission.
Financial Management
  • Partner with the CAO on budget management and resource allocation.
  • Align operational spending with organizational priorities.
  • Monitor costs and ensure fiscal responsibility.
  • Evaluate program effectiveness and resource utilization to inform improvements.
Leadership and Team Development
  • Lead and inspire a high-performing team aligned with organizational values.
  • Provide coaching and professional development to direct reports.
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
  • Build strong relationships with staff, board members, donors, and community partners.
  • Develop internal leadership capacity for future growth.
Other Responsibilities
  • Represent the organization in community meetings and professional settings.
  • Support the CEO and Board in organizational growth and planning.
  • Contribute operational insights to support fundraising and program impact storytelling.
Qualifications
  • Proven executive leadership experience in a nonprofit or mission-driven organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex operations and multiple program areas.
  • Strong knowledge of program management and youth development principles.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills across diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience with nonprofit budgeting and financial management.
  • Commitment to the mission of Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Kansas City.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Nonprofit Management, Education, or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • 8–10 years of progressive leadership experience, including at least 5 years in senior/executive roles.
  • Experience overseeing diverse program areas such as education and youth development.

 

Job Type: Full Time

Salary Range: $100,000 and over
